We at Calvary Szeged believe that there is a two-fold call of God upon the church.

We believe the first call of the church is an “inward” call. The church is to be a place of edification for believers.  We believe the Bible lays out the essential foundations for any church.  In Acts 2:42 we are told that the early church continued steadfastly in the apostle’s teaching, in fellowship, in breaking of bread and in prayer. This is a wonderful model we seek to follow.

In this model there are 4 essential “keys” to the church.

      1. Teaching: There are many churches that are based upon emotion. Emotion, though a good thing (sometimes) isn’t what we’re to base our lives or churches on. When we allow emotion to be the spiritual authority in our lives 2 things are going to happen.   1. Our spiritual lives will be shallow.  2. Our spiritual lives will be a constant “emotional rollercoaster”.

We believe that the Word of God  is to be the foundation for our lives & churches because:

        1. The Word of God increases our faith.  (Romans 10:17)

        2. The Word of God was written for us to learn the ways of God (Romans 15:4)

        3. The Word of God of God was given for completion & to equip us for every good work.

                     (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

This is why we put a high emphasis on teaching here at Calvary Szeged. If you can’t be with us in person, you can listen to studies live on-line or you can download many years worth of Bible Studies from our “teachings”  page.

      2. Fellowship:  Fellowship for the believer is so important. The early church shared their lives with one another, that’s the meaning of fellowship.   We do seek to create times for fellowship in the church when we have church lunches (food is always a great way to fellowship) and different church programs and events.   As Hebrews 10:24-25 tells us, fellowship stirs us up to love & good works and that fellowship is essential if we are to stay “on fire” for the Lord.

But we believe the basis of fellowship is accepting the responsibility to care for one another for it is by our love for one another, Jesus said, that the world will know we are His disciples.  So here at Calvary Szeged we seek to care for those in our church family who are in need.

We also believe it’s important for all believers to accept the responsibility to care for the church & therefore we do have an offering box where believers can place their tithes and offerings, that we use for the furtherance of God’s work here in Szeged.

      3. Breaking of bread: Before Jesus was crucified, He instituted the Lord’s supper, for the simple reason that we wouldn’t forget the price that was paid for our salvation.  We at Calvary Szeged partake of Communion on the first Sunday and the third Wednesday of every month to remind us that we are “saved by grace, through faith…it is a gift of God, not of works lest anyone should boast.”

      4. Prayer: we know that God answers prayer! Therefore we encourage private & corporate prayer.  If you have a prayer need, then someone will be more than happy to pray with you before or after any service or you can e-mail us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and we will get out your prayer request on our church prayer e-mail.   There is also a Tuesday night prayer meeting at our church.

We believe the second call of the church is an “outward” call. Over and over again, Jesus tells us that we are “salt & light” in this world.  Before He ascended into Heaven He gave us the great commission, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you…” (Matthew 28:19-20)

We believe that the Lord left the example on how to “reach” people for the Kingdom of God & that is by first ministering to their physical needs which will open a door to deal with spiritual issues. As it has been said, “people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.”

We believe that as we open our eyes to the needs around us, God will lead us to meet the needs, and hopefully we will be able to take the Gospel to those who have not yet received it.
